We aspire to improve the quality of life in partnership with the community. Benefits include a significant tax credit through the State of Maryland, training in police skills such as defensive tactics, firearms and vehicle operation, free equipment and uniforms and the opportunity to participate in exciting events and activities.
Auxiliary Officers have the opportunity to serve in many ways, including but not limited to:
- Staffing security details.
- Crowd and traffic control at public events.
- Patrolling on foot and bicycle.
- Issuing parking citations.
- Assisting sworn officers during natural disasters, fires, inclement weather, and searches for missing persons.
- Accompanying and assisting sworn officers on patrol and during special enforcement initiatives.
- Patrolling parks, schools, and shopping centers after hours.
Required Qualifications:
- Be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent,
- Be a United States citizen
- Possess a valid drivers license (equivalent to a noncommercial class C Maryland driver's license)
- Be of good moral character and stable temperament
- Successfully pass an oral interview, physical agility test, drug screen and background investigation
- Be willing to take a loyalty oath
- Be a citizen who cares enough about local government to serve as a volunteer in a public safety capacity
