Bel Air, Maryland - On Monday, October 20, 2025, the Bel Air Board of Town Commissioners formally acknowledged the resignation of Commissioner James B. Rutledge III, thereby creating a vacancy on the Board. According to the Town Charter, when there are three or more Commissioners remaining in office, the Board may appoint a qualified individual to fill the vacancy. With four Commissioners currently serving, the Board will proceed with the appointment process. In the spirit of transparency and community engagement, the Board is soliciting interest from qualified town residents who may be interested in serving out the remainder of Commissioner Rutledge’s term that expires in November 2027.
Citizens interested in being considered for appointment to the Board of Town Commissioners may submit an online application (https://www.belairmd.org/FormCenter/Administration-6/Board-Vacancy-Application-for-Town-Commi-106) to express their interest along with the required Financial Disclosure Statement.
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to serve as a Town Commissioner.
- Be a resident within the municipal limits of the Town of Bel Air for at least six months prior to applying.
- Be a registered voter in the State of Maryland, Harford County, Town of Bel Air.
In lieu of an online application, interested citizens may submit a cover letter, including a statement that they meet the above minimum qualifications, a resume, and the required Financial Disclosure Statement to: Town of Bel Air, Attn: Town Clerk, 39 N. Hickory Avenue, Bel Air, MD 21014.
Following review of submitted applications, selected candidates will be contacted to schedule an interview. The Board encourages all qualified Town residents who are committed to public service and the future of Bel Air to apply. The application deadline is November 20, 2025, at 12:00 PM.
