(Bel Air, MD) _ The Thanksgiving Holiday Initiative (Sober Streets) has successfully concluded. There were no serious motor vehicle crashes during the holiday weekend. There were also few disruptions at our local taverns despite large turnouts.
We attribute the success to the enormous emphasis on "high visibility" enforcement and the excellent partnership with the Harford County Traffic Task Force. This dedicated group of officers/deputies/troopers share our passion and commitment for improving traffic and community safety.
Additionally, we credit the great relationships forged with local taverns and our media partners who overwhelmingly spread the word about our mission of safety to their patrons and citizens in the community. Enforcement personnel noted that motorists and passengers exercised a high level of awareness for sober motoring. Many were involved in transporting others who felt that they had consumed in excess of the legal limits.
Overall this weekend there were 363 citations and warnings issued with one suspended operator and one non-licensed operator cited. There were 22 cell phone violations documented (enforced) during the operation.
Holiday traffic arrests included:
1. Joyner, Gregory, 21, Havre De Grace, Md. Charge: Possession of Suspected Marijuana (over 25 grams).
2. Boucher, Lisa, 26, Fallston, Md
Charge: DUI
